LOCH VENACHER - CYCLE ROUTE DESCRIPTION:

Location: By Callander. Stirlingshire
Map: OS Landranger 57
Distance: 12 miles ( 20km )
Time: 2 hours
Terrain: Very hilly outward section, flat return; cycle path, minor road

Spring into the Trossachs for a challenging circuit of contrasting halves around Loch Venachar. The route is almost entirely traffic free, with the exception of the last few kilometres on a quiet road, but the outward section is hard.
Mountain bikers with a bit of experience will love it as a challenge. Alternatively you could simply cycle the flat half to arrive at charming Brig O' Turk.
The outward route follows a section of the 30-mile ( 48km ) Great Trossachs Path, designed for walkers and cyclists, which runs from
Callander to Inversnaid on the eastern shore of Loch Lomond.
Start from Bochastlc forestry car park, which is signed from the A821 just west of Kilmahog. The track, with a topcoat of small stones, has excellent views throughout of the elongate Loch Venachar.
Further on, it drops down by Brig O' Turk. Continue right to the signed Byre Inn, crossing the Black Water on an old bridge. Carry on into a farmyard, keeping left, and through a gate on to a forestry road. Pedal on to follow a Sustrans sign for Callander. This leads on to a narrower path with views of Ben Aan.
Ride on through a stunning section that weaves through woods and by the loehshore before reaching the quiet road that leads to Invertrossachs.
Cycle by oak woods to reach a bridge. Cross over to rejoin the Great Trossachs Path opposite to return to the start.
