out of Namche on main trail to Tyangboche.

Nuptse -Lhotse Wall.
Divert left from main trail and climb
to col with large chorten.
Views across valley to Ama Dablam, Kang
Taiga and Thamserku.
Descend and camp near riverside at
Phortse Tenga.
2. Phortse
Tenga - Macherma:
Continue
up valley through rhododendron, birch and juniper
forests.
Contour round side-valleys and through
small settlements at
Tongba, Dole,Lhabarma and Luze.
Proceed over moorland and encamp at
village of Macherma.

3. Macherma
- Gokyo:
Continue
over moorland to Pangka.
Views ahead of Cho Oyu.
Climb over rough moraine alongside
stream to reach level ground
leading onto the lakes at Gokyo.
4. Climb
Gokyo Ri ( c5480
metres ):
Ascend
mossy hillside above Gokyo to command a fine viewpoint
over the Ngozumpa Glacier to Taboche and Cholatse. Summit of
Everest visible.
Cho Oyu and Gyachung Kang at the
valleyhead.
5. Gokyo
- Na ( 1/2 day ):
Return
down valley and cross to eastern bank of the Dudh Khosi.
6. Na
- Phortse:
Traverse
along steep sided flanks of the valley above the Dudh
Khosi.
7. Phortse
- Namche:
Descend
and cross river to rejoin trail from Namche Bazaar.
