Panch Pokhari and the Bakong Gompa
Daily,
Place to Place, Route Descriptions:
1.
Kathmandu - Chautara:
By
local or private bus.
2. Chautara
-
Sherpa Gaon:
Proceed
out of Chautara and ascend through small settlements.
3. Sherpa
Gaon - Yak Kharka:
Climb
through forest to reach crest of long ridge leading to
Nosempati.
4. Yak
Kharka
- Baice Kharka:
Continue
rising traverse along forested ridge.
Views across to the Langtang Himal.
5. Baice
Kharka - Nosempati:
Continue
along ridge and climb to stone huts at Nosempati on col.

6. Nosempati
- Jugal Panch Pokhari:
( 1/2 day )
Climb
rocky staircase to reach the set of five lochans ensconced
beneath
craggy cirque.
7. Rest
day/
Exploration:
Climb
to ridge top above Panch Pokhari for view of Dorje Lakpa in
the Jugal
Himal.
8. Panch
Pokhari - Nosempati - wilderness camp:
Descend
to Nosempati and continue down towards the Indrawati
Khola Valley.
Camp in one of the small kharkas /
clearings in the jungle.
9. Wilderness
camp - Indrawati Khola:
Continue
to descend into the Indrawati Khola Valley.
Cross river and camp at small
settlement.
10. Indrawati
Khola - Bakong Gompa:
Re-cross
river to eastern bank.
Steep climb up valley-side with view
down to Indrawati Khola.
Continue through dense jungle to reach
the walled gompa.
11. Bakong
Gompa:
Remotely
located Gompa
12. Bakong
Gompa - wilderness camp:
Proceed
on trail beyond gompa to river.
Cross river and continue through dense
jungle.
Traverse along hillside and camp on col.
View of peaks in the Jugal Himal.
13. Wilderness
camp - Tharke Ghyang:
( 1/2 day )
Descend
to reach Tamang village of Tharkye Ghyang.
14. Tharkye
Ghyang - Shermathang:
Descend
broad ridge above the Melamchi Khola and Indrawati Khola.
