BEN LOMOND - ROUTE DESCRIPTION:
Within easy reach of Glasgow and set in the heart of the Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park,
a path leads all the way from Rowardennan to the viewpoint summit.
START/FINISH: Car park next to the pier at Rowardennan ( grid ref NS 359987 ).
DISTANCE: 11km / 7 miles.
TOTAL ASCENT: 950m.
MAP: Ordnance Survey 1:50,000 Landranger sheet 56.
ROUTE:
A good path leaves the car park and climbs through a Forestry Commission plantation.
It emerges on to open hillside and swings north, rising over Sron Aonaich.
The ascent continues up the southern shoulder of Ben Lomond, the gradient increasing as the summit is approached.
Return by the same route.
OTHER WALKS IN THE AREA:
Follow the West Highland Way long-distance path to Rowchoish and return to Rowardenn.
A lochside path, passing a cave used by Rob Roy to imprison his enemies.
