at Hikkaduwa on the south-west coast of Sri Lanka Hikkaduwa
Beach is 98km to the south of Colombo.
The beach is one of the most beautiful in Sri Lanka. The coral sanctuary at Hikkaduwa is enclosed by a reef and contains multi-coloured corals - the shallow water is home to many species of brightly coloured fish. Off the coast there are also islets surrounded by coral formations. with many fish and large turtles. To the south of Hikkaduwa there are ideal waves for board and body surfing. Equipment for snorkeling and surfing is available for hire. In Hikkaduwa Town there are shops selling masks, gems, jewellery, batik and antiques. Also several Buddhist temples. |
